Collins issues response to healthcare bill's failure

Georgia's Ninth District Congressman Doug Collins of Gainesville has issued a statement in response to the Republicans' health care bill being removed from the house floor Friday afternoon.

In the statement, Collins, who is also the vice chair of the House Republican Conference, said he was "frustrated and grieved" that Republicans who opposed the bill "refused to act according to their professed principals."

The controversial healthcare reform bill had been debated for weeks before House Speaker Paul Ryan pulled the bill from the floor roughly an hour before it was set to be voted on.

Collins said he supported the bill, despite the disapproval of several Republicans.

"I am proud to have stood with President Trump to repeal and replace the law that has hurt American families and replaced their freedom with federal mandates," Collins said, referring to the Affordable Care Act that the Republicans' bill looked to overrule.

He added, "because of the decisions of a few members, we remain mired in a health system that is able neither to care for our neighbors nor to protect unborn Americans."
