Baseball: Branch opens 8-AAAAA with shutout of rival Johnson

OAKWOOD — Four pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout to lead Flowery Branch to a 9-0 victory over Johnson Monday in Region 8-AAAAA action.

It was the region opener for the Falcons (8-7, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA). The Knights fell to 2-12 overall and 0-3 in region play on the season.

Zander Sechrist went three innigs surrendering just one hit and fanned seven to lead Flowery Branch. Nick Langford pitched two innings yelding two hits and striking out five. Ryan Ganter pitched one inning allowing one hit and AJ Gonzalez pitched a perfect inning for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch scored single runs in the first and second innings and then added four more in the third to blow the game open. The Falcons scored twice in the fourth and once in the fifth.

Anthony Grutaduario and KC Dzialo led an 11-hit attack with two hits apiece and scoring two runs each. Gonzalez had one hit and three RBI for the Falcons.

The two teams will complete a home-and-home series on Wednesday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.
