Gainesville BOE approves final Enota demolition-construction costs

GAINESVILLE – The Gainesville City School Board heard final construction costs for the demolition and rebuilding of Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy at their meeting Monday evening.

Carroll Daniel Construction of Gainesville has served as construction manager for the project, soliciting and evaluating all the subcontractor bids for the various aspects of the elementary school’s construction.

The final price of $17,459,105 was approved unanimously by the school board, with demolition of the 63-year-old structure slated to begin June 1st.

Chris Griner, Chief Financial Officer for the school system, said the amount approved did not include architectural fees relating to the design of the building nor the cost to purchase furniture for the school once construction is completed.

“Also the kitchen equipment is not included in that,” Griner added.  “The main reason why we do that is because as a government entity we can do that without having to pay sales tax which saves the (school) system money.”

The new school is expected to open in time for the 2018-2019 school year.
