A Dahlonega woman remained in jail without bond Monday facing charges, including murder, in the death of her infant son over a year ago.
Megan Dix, 19, was booked into the Lumpkin County Detention Center on March 8, according to sheriff's Lt. Chris Pfrogner.
The charges stem from a December 15, 2015, 911 call Dix made. She advised the call taker that her two-month-old wasn't breathing, according to Pfrogner. Authorities responded to the residence off of Winters Mountain Road.
"When we arrived on scene, along with EMS, the child was not breathing at that time. We attempted to resuscitate the child, and then they took the child to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, and then to Scottish Rite, I believe, and the baby was pronounced dead," Pfrogner said.
A subsequent autopsy confirmed the cause of death as head trauma.
"...head trauma that could not have been self-inflicted," Pfrogner said.
During the week of March 6, a Lumpkin County Grand Jury indicted Dix on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and 1st degree cruelty to children, according to Pfrogner.
