Hall judge awards damages for plaintiff in civil suit against Katt Williams

A State Court of Hall County Judge awarded a plaintiff $86,715 in damages Wednesday in a civil suit against comedian Micah "Katt" Williams, according to court records.

The lawsuit, filed in August of last year, related to an alleged February 29, 2016 assault on Paul Love, an employee of Leslie’s Pool Supplies on Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway.

"Williams piled 30-35 items on the counter and as Mr. Love began to ring up the merchandise, Mr. Williams left the store. Mr. Williams returned to the store quite a while later, and accused Mr. Love of not ringing up the items because he, Mr. Love, was a racist,"  a post on the Pope McGlamry law firm website states.  "Mr. Williams flew into a rage, berating Mr. Love, punching him in the face, hurling merchandise at him, and interfering numerous times with Mr. Love’s attempts to call 911."

Pope McGlamry lawyers Caroline McGlamry and M.J. Blakely represented Love in court Wednesday.

The court entered a default judgment against Williams last month for failing to answer Love's complaint, according to Pope McGlamry.

The breakdown of the damages awarded by Judge B.E. Roberts included $6,500 for past medical expenses, $13,000 for pain and suffering and $13,000 for distress, fright and anxiety, according to court documents.

The medical expenses related to Love having undergone brain surgery roughly ten weeks before the incident, according to the lawsuit.

"(He)...had been instructed not to engage in any activities that could cause stress or excessive force to Plaintiff's (Love's) head,  the doctor (after the incident) wanted to do a CT scan and Plaintiff (Love) was therefore sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Emergency room for treatment," the lawsuit stated.

Roberts also awarded $54,000 in punitive damages and the remainder of the total for court fees.

Williams pleaded no contest this past December to assault and battery charges stemming from an incident with a bodyguard in Hall County in March of 2016.  Part of that plea agreement was the condition that Williams be banned from Hall and Dawson counties.
