Roderick takes Pro Late Model opener at Montgomery

By Track PR

Casey Roderick inherited the lead in Saturday night’s Pro Late Model feature at Montgomery Motor Speedway when Augie Grill had to pit with an oil leak.

From there, the Lawrenceville, Georgia speedster went on to hold off Jasper, Georgia’s Chandler Smith to score the victory in the Montgomery, Alabama speedway’s season opener.

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin took the early lead in the 125 lap feature, but after the first caution, Smith would move to the lead on lap eight. After the caution flew again for a dust-up between Marlin and Perry Patino, Smith would be shown to black flag for jumping the start. As he was serving a pass-through penalty, the caution flew again when Brandon Herbert and Jordan McCallum spun, bringing out the caution.

Grill was the new leader on the restart, and as the race approached the half way mark, Roderick had worked his way to second while Smith worked to rebound from his penalty, moving back into the top five.

On lap 71, Roderick would take the lead for the first time with an inside move on Grill in lap traffic. Six laps later, Grill retook the lead. Caution flew again on lap 91 for contact between McCallum and Herbert. With reports of fluid on the windshields of several cars came from teams, race officials stopped Grill’s car on the front stretch to check. He was then sent to the pits to make repairs, handing Roderick the lead.

From there, Roderick went on to score the victory, with Smith in second, Derek Scott, Jr. in third, Justin South in fourth and Bobby Knox, Jr. in fifth.

Daniel Bolden, Chris Landers, Grill, Michael Bolden and Perry Patino rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Joe Aramendia took the win in the Modifieds of Mayhem feature, with Jeff Letson in second, Johnny Walker in third, Donald Crocker in fourth and Rocky Rogers in fifth.

Charles Davis was the winner in the Street Stock feature, with Josh Wilson, Trey Grimes and Brian Hutchinson rounding out the top four.
