Piedmont places 5 on USA South Player of the Week listing, including Carpenter

The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly Athlete of the Week honor roll with five Piedmont athletes earning a spot on the listing. Piedmont swept the women's lacrosse awards while taking Softball Pitcher of the Week and Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week.

Sam Carpenter earned Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week picking up his first collegiate win tossing 5.2 innings in a 14-4 victory over Dallas. The Lions were 3-1 over the week in competition in Jackson, Mississippi with a pair of wins over Millsaps as well as the win over Dallas.

Melissa Eckman took Softball Pitcher of the Week after posting two complete-game victories over the week against Millsaps and Emory & Henry. Eckman earned USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Year last season for her work in the circle. 

Kayla Jones was named Lacrosse Player of the Week with a total of 10 points on five goals and five assists for the Lady Lions. Jones scored three goals in a win over Oglethorpe as PC was 1-1 over the week. Rowan Bumpass took Lacrosse Rookie Player of the Week honors as she had three goals over the week with two against Oglethorpe and one vs. Centre. 

Blake Forrest posted a 10.0 goals against average over the 1-1 week for the Lady Lions earning Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. The senior from St. Johns, Florida made 20 saves over the week posting 10 each against Oglethorpe and Centre. 

The USA South Athletic Conference announces its weekly honor roll each Monday and at least half of the teams in a sport must have competed within the previous week for honors to be awarded.
