Man cleared on aggravated assault charges in fight with brother

By AccessWDUN Staff

A Hall County man who had been accused in the stabbing of his brother during an argument almost two years ago was cleared of felony aggravated assault charges by a jury last week.

Anthony Juan Hood, who was 18 at the time of the incident, was convicted on a lesser charge of reckless conduct and was sentenced to serve 12 months in jail for that offense.

Hood's attorney, public defender W. David Hoofer, said his client's family came out to support Hood during the trial.

"It was a great outcome to a stressful and sad case," Hoffer said in an email statement. "His family came out in support of Anthony at trial including his brother, the alleged victim. Anthony is appreciative both to the jury for its decision and his family for their love and support."

The victim, Trevor Lee Benson suffered a stab wound to the abdomen during the argument on March 26, 2015. The incident happened at a residence on Marlow Drive, according to deputies who were called to the scene.
