(VIDEO) Class AAAAA playoffs: Buford teams sweep into second round

BUFORD — The Buford basketball teams advanced into the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs with impressive at the Buford City Arena.

The Buford boys held off Lithia Springs 75-63 after falling behind 13-2 to start the game. The Lady Wolves routed Decatur 76-38 in the first game.

The boys will play host to New Hampstead in the second round while the girls will play host to Ware County in the second round.

In the boys game, Buford feel behind quickly to Lithia Springs but battled back to pull within 18-14 by the end of the first quarter. The Wolves exploded in the second quarter outscoring the Lions 20-8 to grab a 34-26 halftime lead.

Lithia Springs came out strong to start the third quarter and pulled within 50-47 heading into the fourth quarter. But a 25-point final period by Buford put things out of reach down the stretch.

Marcus Watson paced Buford with 23 points. Alex Jones added 19, David Viti 16, and Donell Nixon 12 points for the Wolves.

Ceaunte Zachery had a game-high 25 points to lead Lithia Springs.

Buford won the game at the free throw line hitting 16-of-24 for the game while the Lions were just 5-of-6 from the line for the game.

In the girls game, the Lady Wolves made quick work of Decatur in the first game. Buford (25-2) jumped out to a 25-7 lead after the first eight minutes and then extended the lead to 40-12 by halftime behind another dominant defensive performance.

Audrey Weiner led Buford with 18 points. Marissa Bruce added 14 points for the Lady Wolves.
