Belk drops Ivanka Trump line from online offerings, customers accuse company of playing politics

By B.J. Williams
Belk, a department store chain based in Charlotte, NC, has announced it will stop offering Ivanka Trump clothing and accessories online, a move that has sparked controversy among the company's customer base.

As of Thursday morning, more than 35,000 comments had been logged on the Belk Facebook page in reaction to a company statement posted Wednesday afternoon.

"We want to thank all of you who have reached out to express your views about Ivanka Trump branded merchandise sold by Belk," the social media post reads.

"We welcome and pay close attention to feedback from our customers. We continually review our assortment and the performance of the brands we carry. We make adjustments as part of our normal course of business operations. In this regard, we are no longer carrying Ivanka Trump branded merchandise on our website, but are continuing to offer the brand at our flagship stores."

Thousands of customers have accused Belk of playing politics with the decision to drop the line, which is owned by President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka.

Her line of merchandise was targeted last fall by the #GrabYourWallet campaign. The effort urges people to boycott stores that do business with the Trump family. As of Thursday morning, Belk remained on the organization's list of companies to boycott.

Belk has about 300 locations in 16 states, including stores in Atlanta, Buford, Gainesville, Cornelia and Cumming in North Georgia.
