A Gainesville man is facing charges for allegedly molesting a girl, and his mother is also facing charges for allegedly trying to dispose of the evidence in the case.
Pedro Ramiro Andres, 19, allegedly committed the crime Nov. 30 against a girl, 12, who was known to him, said Lt. Scott Ware, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman, in a statement.
The same day, Andres's mother, Maria Andres Tomas, 42, of Gainesville, tried to burn the victim's clothing and a blanket "in attempt to protect/prevent the successful apprehension and prosecution of her son."
Both suspects were taken into custody on Dec. 28, and bond has not been set for either of them, said Ware.
Andres is charged with child molestation, and also faces a bench warrant from an unrelated case, while Tomas is charged with tampering with evidence.
