GasBuddy: Average gas prices steady in Georgia

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia held steady over the past week, coming in at $2.24 per gallon on Monday, Christmas day.

While prices in Georgia were static for the week, they're 6.7 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and 9.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, according to GasBuddy.com.

The tech company's historical data for the state shows a wide range of prices on December 26 for the past five years.
  • $2.17/g in 2016
  • $1.91/g in 2015
  • $2.29/g in 2014
  • $3.17/g in 2013
  • $3.17/g in 2012
Prices in Georgia also remained better for consumers than the national average.  Across the country, the price per gallon went up a penny to $2.43 per gallon.  That amounts to a decrease of 6.5 cents per gallon over the past month, but an increase of 14.9 cents over the same day last year.

"With the New Year set to roll in accompanied by a strong cold front, I'd expect gasoline demand to weaken, thus softening the outlook for gas prices in the weeks ahead and eventually delivering lower gas prices,"  Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy said.  "Offering a brief glimpse into 2018: motorists won't be loving what they see, but the devil's in the details."
