Girls basketball: Lady Vikings advance to War Lodge final; Banks County wins

CANTON — The East Hall girls moved into the finals of the War Lodge Invitational after holding off Woodward Academy 72-65 Friday at the Sequoyah High gym.

Senior Carly Winters led the way for the Lady Vikings (5-5) with 29 points, 17 coming in the fourth quarter. Ivy Shadburn added 15 points and Tessa Rider 11 for East Hall. Maggie Griffin chipped in with 8 points. As a team the Lady Vikings connected on 19 3-pointers for the game.

Tyler Collins paced Woodward with a game-high 35 points.

The Lady Vikings next will take on host Sequoyah at 2:30 p.m. in the tournament championship game.

The Lady Leopards survived a 13-point second half to hold off the Lady Trojans for the win.

The two teams were tied at 15 after the first quarter but Banks County (8-3) used a 23-point second quarter to take a 38-23 lead into the intermission.

Allison Smith had a second straight solid game with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the Lady Leopards. Maddie Thomas added 15 points, Jaycie Bowen had 10 points and 6 rebounds, and Amber Williams 8 points and 9 rebounds for Banks County.

The Lady Leopards have won two straight and four of their last five overall. North Hall (5-4) has lost two straight heading into next week's Lanierland Tounament.

The Lady Leopards will play host to Habersham Central on December 28 in the Banks County Christmas tournament.
