Police say a popular check cashing scam has homeless people from Atlanta coming to Hall County by the busload.
This past Thursday, a homeless man was arrested in Flowery Branch and confessed to cashing bogus checks, according to police.
Flowery Branch Police investigator Robin Kemp tells AccessWDUN the man was used by a group that hires homeless people and brings them to Hall County to pull off the scam.
Kemp says very often scammers will bring homeless people to Hall County by the small busload to work the scam on a large scale. He says they get away with it because it can take some banks a couple of days to realize a check is phony.
Kemp added it is an almost daily occurrence and is a problem that is very difficult to combat.
