Johnson earlier said Sgt. Randy Harkness, 52, had given Foster a courtesy ride to the Chevron station at the intersection of Ga. 53 and Ga. 400.  When Harkness was about to help him out with some money, Foster allegedly began hitting him in the face.

Johnson said a witness to the attack pulled out her gun and shot Foster.  Authorities said he ran to a nearby McDonald's restaurant and assaulted a woman there before being arrested.

Harkness, Foster and the woman were transported to an area hospital for treatment.   There's no word on the conditions of Foster or the woman.  Harkness, a 24-year department veteran, is out of the hospital.

Johnson didn't immediately list an age or city of residence for Foster.
