Drought creeps back into Gainesville, east metro Atlanta areas

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Drought conditions are slowly pushing back into north Georgia, mostly in the Gainesville area and eastern sections of metro Atlanta.

This follows several months of drought-free conditions in the northern part of the state.

The latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows "abnormally" dry conditions in southeastern Hall County and adjoining parts of Jackson and Barrow counties, all of Gwinnett and Forsyth counties and southern Dawson County.

The most serious drought conditions in the state, "moderately" dry, are in parts of east central and southeast Georgia.  Most of the state remains drought-free.
