UPDATE: Juvenile charged with murder in Forsyth County shooting

By B.J. Williams

After an 18-year-old shooting victim died overnight, Forsyth County investigators have charged a juvenile with murder and aggravated assault in the incident.

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office initially reported the shooting at a home in the 1200 block of Wondering Way on its Facebook page Thanksgiving night.

Late Friday morning, Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater issued a statement, saying DreLandon Brown died from injuries sustained during the shooting.

Rainwater said deputies were called to the scene at 7:56 p.m. on Nov. 23.

"Once the deputies arrived, they found an 18-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound inside the house. The occupants of the house said they knew the person who shot him and that he had just left," said Rainwater. "We set up a perimeter around the subdivision and within minutes we were able to locate, we believe, the suspect who pulled the trigger."

Rainwater also said the suspect had in his arms a two-week-old infant that he had apparently taken from the home. He said it is believed the suspect is the father of the infant.

The baby's mother lives at the residence where the shooting occurred, and Rainwater said she and other adults were home at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.

The alleged shooter has been charged as an adult in the case, according to Rainwater.

"We have charged him as an adult, but now it's up to the District Attorney to release the name of this person if they do choose to try him in court as an adult," Rainwater said. He also declined to release the age of the suspect.

Rainwater said the suspect is being held at a youth detention center in metro Atlanta.

Rainwater said he believed the baby was returned to the custody of the mother.
