DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County took Class 7A No. 7 Collins Hills to three overtimes but could not complete what would have been a huge early-season upset falling to the Eagles 83-76 in triple overtime in the championship game of the Tiger Tipoff Classic.

The Tigers faced a tall task, figuratively and literally, against Collins Hill, which featured 6-foot-8 wing Justin Lee (Northern Illinios-signee) and 6-6 post Chris Parks (Queens University-signee).

But, Dawson County jumped out on the Eagles 16-12 after the first quarter, and held the lead 28-24 at the half. Both teams scored 19 in the third for a 47-43 score heading to the 4th. A back and forth fourth quarter led to a knotted game, 51-51, and headed to overtime.

The Tigers led by two in the first OT when the Eagles' Manderius Dickerson scored a driving layup with 1 second left to send it to a second overtime period. In the second extra frame, the Tigers' Ryan Gallenkamp hit 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game with 30 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Dickerson missed a shot at the buzzer for the win.

Collins Hill seized control of the game at the start of the third overtime, scoring the first six points and finished the game out at the free throw line.
