Queen City Parkway to close for several hours Sunday for crash investigation

Gainesville Police are expected to shut down a stretch of Queen City Parkway Sunday morning as they reconstruct last Monday's 11-car crash.

In an email to AccessWDUN, Cpl. Jessica Van confirmed the roughly six-hour closure was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.  The affected portion of the road is between Palmour Drive and West Ridge Road.

Monday's chain-reaction crash involved 11 vehicles and injured 11 people.  Nine of the victims were treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to Van.  In all, 14 people were either driving or riding in vehicles involved in the collision.

One of the victims, Nicole Alexandra Rocafort, 24, of Cumming, succumbed to her injuries over the week.  She was in a car that was rear-ended by a tanker truck at West Ridge Road.

"The investigation is still ongoing and it's possible charges will arise," Cpl. Jessica Van said Friday morning.
