Cleveland Hwy. motorists warned about lower speed limits, associated bridge construction

By AccessWDUN staff

The Hall County Sheriff's Office is warning Cleveland Highway motorists about the lower speed limits associated with work on two new bridges on that busy highway.

"If you travel this corridor, you've already noticed the start of construction for the replacement of both bridges," reads a posting on the department's Facebook page.  "Please note that for the safety of the workers and motorists, the GA DOT has dropped the speed limit in both construction zones (at Longstreet Bridge and Bells Mill Bridge)."

The speed limit is now 35 mph at both bridges.

"The limit stair-steps down to 45MPH well in advance as you approach the area, so everyone has time to slow down. Pay particular attention when southbound at the Bells Mill Bridge; it's very easy to let that steep hill carry your speed as you come into the blind curve just before the bridge."

The posting notes that both of these are "long-term" projects, "so expect delays along this route for the foreseeable future and plan accordingly. Be on the lookout for construction workers, heavy vehicles, flaggers, and temporary lane closures."
