North Georgians celebrate the 2017 holiday season with events all over the region

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas... and our local cities, churches and businesses are getting in the spirit with new and old events to ring in the holiday season. Grab the kids or a friend and check out one of the holiday events near you ahead of the holidays.

Saturday, December 9

Downtown Clarkesville Christmas Parade
Downtown Clarkesville
5 p.m.
Enjoy free photos with Santa, live entertainment, s'mores, hot coca, cider, extended shopping hours, Windows at Woods and a tree lighting at 6 p.m. Storybook Christmas Parade begins at 5 p.m - registration is $10 and line up is at 4 p.m. at the new Habersham County Courthouse

Lake Lanier Parade of Boats
Lake Lanier Islands
5 p.m.  to 10 p.m.
The Pirates of Lake Lanier are hosting the second annual Parade of Boats! Starting at the home port or marina, boats will be escorted to Sunset Cove Marina for festivities, contests and a raffle for a new Yamaha WaveRunner with trailer. Awards for Best Decorated will be presented to a boat from each marina, along with a grand prize winner. Entries begin at $75. More information here.

 

Sunday, December 10

Family Day: Victorian Christmas
Northeast Georgia History Center
1 p.m to 4 p.m
Celebrate a Victorian-era Christmas at the Northeast Georgia History Center. Have your photo made with Santa Claus, hear performances of Twas the Night Before Christmas, sing Christmas songs and carrolls and enjoy cider, hot chocolate and cookies before making era-inspired ornaments and decorations to take home or put on the center's Christmas tree.

The Polar Farm Express
Warbington Farms - Cumming
1 p.m.
Enjoy a magical journey of Christmas fun at Warbington Farms. Tickets include photos with Santa, his sleigh and snow (your camera or order prints from 2 - 5 p.m.), a Polar Express themed area, crafts, a snow pit, vendors, petting zoo, bon fire and more. Tickets at $7 and can be purchased at the gate. More information here.

 

Thursday, December 14

Christmas in the Park
Cornelia City Park
5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Enjoy a hayride through the light displays, visit Santa, go ice skating, visit the Holiday Market or enjoy live entertainment. Event runs Thursday through Saturday. Admission, visits with Santa and live entertainment are free; activity pircing, including hay rides, ice skating, s'mores, food vendors and the Holiday Market vary. Friday, December 22
 
Drive-Thru Nativity and Petting Zoo
Whistleville Christian Church - Winder
7 p.m.
Join Whistleville Christian Church for a live Drive-Thru Nativity and Petting Zoo, including a live camel! Hot Chocolate and cookies will be available for purchase. Event run through Saturday, December 23 at 7 p.m.

Magical Nights of Lights
Lake Lanier Islands
5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Celebrate 25 years of Magical Nights of Lights with seven miles of roads in Lake Lanier Islands covered in millions of lights. Features new and old displays, such as a 65 foot illuminated Christmas tree and the old favorite and newly refurbished 12 Days of Christmas light display. Also visit Santa and his elves, enjoy s'mores and hot chocolate or take a spin on carnival rides! Tickets are $35 at the gate or can be purchased online ahead of time. Event runs through January 3, 2018.
