Prep basketball: Chestatee boys open with win over Pickens; Lady War Eagles fall

GAINESVILLE — The Chestatee boys basketball team responded to a 5-point deficit with four minutes remaining to pull out a 85-77 win over Pickens on Tuesday in Gainesville.  

Cameron Gwyn and Cooper Wilson combined to shoot 12 of 24 from 3-point range for the War Eagles (1-0). Gwyn finished with 33 points and Wilson had 19.  Daniel Briseno also scored 12 points, as well as drawing a key charge on Pickens' Seth Bishop, who fouled out with 19 points.

The Dragons were led by Joseph Gossett’s 26 points.

CHESTATEE 49

Lindsey Caudell scored 21 points to lead the Lady War Eagles, who suffered a defeat to the visiting Dragonettes.

Christina Garcia also added 9 points for Chestatee, while Maggie McNair and Alex Edmonds each scored 5.
