Latest GDOT contracts include replacement of Browns Bridge

By AccessWDUN staff
Georgia Department of Transportation officials recently awarded contracts totaling over $33 million for projects in our area, including the replacement of Browns Bridge over Lake Lanier.

According to District 1 GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland, the 62-year-old bridge will be replaced by Scott Bridge Company of Opelika, Alabama.  The $27 million project is expected to be finished by spring of 2020.

In other contracts, eight bridges, six in Habersham County and two in Hall, will see improvements to their road surfaces and expansion joints.  The $485,986 project is slated for completion next October.  Louis-Company, LLC of Lees Summit, Missouri was the winning bidder, according to Strickland.

The project includes the following bridges:

  • Ga. 365 (US-23) over Norfolk Southern RR, Hall
Officials also awarded contracts for resurfacing projects on I-85 in Gwinnett County and Georgia 11 in Jackson County.

The $936,445 Interstate project involves just over ten miles of roadway.  It runs from north of Jimmy Carter Boulevard to north of Old Peachtree Road.  Another Missouri Company, Roadsafe Traffic Systems, Inc. of St. Louis, won the contract.  The completion timeline is May of next year.

The work on Ga. 11 is a six mile project that will run from south of Ga. 11 Business to north of Ga. 332.  The $4,633,941 contract went to Pittman Construction Company of Conyers. The work is expected to last until September of next year.

"Before construction begins on these awarded construction projects, information pertaining to traffic shifts and lane closures will be communicated to the public and media," Strickland wrote in a media release.
