Brumbalow defeats longtime mayor of Cumming

A local businessman has unseated the man who has held the position of mayor in the city of Cumming for the past 46 years.

Troy Brumbalow beat incumbent H. Ford Gravitt with over just over 59 percent of the vote in yesterday's Tuesday's municipal election, according to unofficial results from the Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections Department.

Brumbalow received 563 votes to Gravitt's 388 in the unofficial returns.

Brumbalow, who has called the city home for 45 years, has been involved in starting four businesses, ranging from softball bat to cabinet companies, according to his campaign website.

Gravitt first took office as mayor in 1971, serving four years as a council member before that.

Incumbents also didn't fare well in the city's other two races Tuesday.

Jason Evans defeated Quincy Holton with just under 58 percent of the vote for the Post 2 city council seat.

The Post 1 race was much tighter, with Chad R. Crane beating Chuck Welch by a three vote margin, according to unofficial results.
