Apartment complex, public safety software upgrade face Thursday Hall Commission vote

By Marc Eggers Anchor / Reporter

GAINESVILLE – Hall County Commissioners will decide Thursday evening on a rezoning application that will allow for the construction of 353 apartments along Spout Springs Road, just east of Hog Mountain Road.

But as the county learned from the applicant’s appearance before the Hall County Planning Commission last month, there are some who oppose the development and they likely will be sharing their concerns at Thursday’s voting session.

One unresolved issue between the developer, Morningstar Investment Group, and the county will be where the entrance into the proposed 39.33-acre complex is sited.

Public Works Director Ken Rearden told commissioners, “The proposed alignment that is in your packet does not align with the curb cut on Spout Springs Road.”

“I have been in contact with the developer and the engineer and told them that they need to move their driveway entrance up,” Rearden explained to the commissioners.

Thursday’s commission meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Hall County Government Center on Browns Bridge Road.

HALL COUNTY READY TO UPGRADE RECORD & JAIL SOFTWARE

Hall County Purchasing Manager Tim Sims said at Monday’s work session, “This is the long-anticipated Hall County Record and Jail Management System software upgrade.”

Sims said 31 proposals were sent out in an effort to secure the best contract.  “We got three back in,” Sims said.

Sims said his staff recommended accepting the bid of Superion Software Solutions.  “If I’m not mistaken this is the same service that the City of Gainesville has on their record management system.”

Sims said the county budgeted $3.4-million for the upgrade in record and jail management software and Superion’s bid came in at $3.216-million.

Sim’s staff said incident reports will be available online and that deputies responding to a call will have access to the history of the individuals involved in the call.

Commissioner Scott Gibbs said he was happy to see the upgrade finally coming online.  “The safety of our officers is always at the forefront.  I think we are one of the last counties in north Georgia to go to an electronic system.”

Approval of the purchase is expected at Thursday evening’s voting session.
