City official confirms halt to plans for 880-home residential development in west Gainesville

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Plans for an 880-home active-adult residential development off Dawsonville Highway west of Gainesville have been halted, city officials confirmed Friday morning.

Rusty Ligon, the city's Community Development Director, says that's because a contract to sell the property to a new developer did not materialize.

The site is on Ahaluna Drive near Dawsonville Highway.

From the beginning, plans for the development ran into strong opposition from many people who live in the area, who cited the heavily commercialized Dawsonville Highway corridor and the traffic congestion that plagues the area.
