Report: Suwanee city council candidate defends social media posts against Israel

A Suwanee city council candidate is reportedly defending comments he made on Twitter against Israel.

Joe Briggs, 59, who is running against incumbent Beth Hilscher, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his posts, which are "protected" and can only be seen by approved followers, are not anti-Semitic, but anti-Israel.

The posts, made more than a year ago, apparently criticized relations between America and Israel, but also drew comparisons between Nazis and Jews.

One refered to Jews as "racists," saying that Jews "don’t care about racism — because they are racist. They only care about racism directed towards them."

Another post called Zionists "cockroaches," the newspaper reports.

Briggs is Hilscher's only challenger in Tuesday's election.
