Authorities release names in fatal south Forsyth County crash

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Wednesday morning released the name of the man killed in a head-on traffic accident Tuesday morning.

In a news release, authorities said a northbound 2004 Honda Odyssey van went over a raised median and into the southbound lane of Mathis Airport Parkway.  The van collided head-on with a 2008 BMW 135i car near Mathis Airport Drive.

The car driver, 52 year-old Darin Curran of Cumming, died at the scene, according to Deputy First Class Scott Collett, Traffic Specialist Investigator for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The van driver, Viraraghavan Varadarajan, 58, of Cumming, was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Authorities said the front seat passenger in the van, a juvenile relative of Varadarajan, was not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.  Deputies got the initial 911 call at 6:51 a.m.
