NEW YORK (AP) — A panel of medical experts meeting this week in Atlanta will take up the issue of waning protection from some vaccines.
No vaccine is perfect, and some people who get vaccines will still get sick. But health officials have noted significant numbers of vaccinated people getting sick in some outbreaks.
Some drugmakers are developing new vaccines especially for older people, using new kinds of additives to boost effectiveness. On Wednesday, the advisory committee is expected to consider recommending one such vaccine, a new shingles vaccine approved last week.
The federal panel recommends what vaccines children and adults should receive and when.
