Sign honoring fallen Gainesville officer to be unveiled Wednesday

By AccessWDUN Staff
Coming up later this week, a road sign will be unveiled on Dawsonville Highway near the intersection of Beechwood Blvd. in memory of a fallen Gainesville police officer.

Officer Henry Tillman Davis was killed in September 1972 when his patrol vehicle was hit from behind on Dawsonville Highway and forced into oncoming traffic. Davis was a passenger in the patrol car and died when an oncoming vehicle hit the patrol car.

State Rep. Lee Hawkins of Gainesville introduced legislation during the 2017 Georgia General Assembly to have a road sign placed on Dawsonville Highway in memory of Davis.

The dedication takes place Oct. 25, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church on Dawsonville Highway.
