Dumphy goal gives UNG women dramatic win

By AccessWDUN

DAHLONEGA — Olivia Dumphy scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute of play as the University of North Georgia women's soccer team defeated UNC Pembroke in come-from-behind fashion, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.

UNG is now 10-3-2 in 2017.

"We saw great character from our team today," said head women's soccer coach Chris Adams. "I was very happy to see the team keep fighting and execute in the second half to get the three points."

After a 42nd minute goal by UNC Pembroke that put the Braves up, 1-0, going into halftime, Renee VanHorn tied the match in the 73rd minute. Her shot bounced off the Brave goalkeeper's hand and into the net to make it a 1-1 game.

Nine minutes later, Dumphy fired a goal from 25 yards out that went just under the crossbar, giving the Nighthawks their first lead of the match. UNCP put a lot of pressure on the back line late, but the defense held strong to earn UNG's fifth straight win.

NOTES
- With the win, the Nighthawks earned their ninth straight 10-win season, dating back to 2009.

- VanHorn's 11th goal of the season puts her in a three-way tie for fourth place in the Peach Belt Conference.

- Dumphy's game-winner is the third of her career.
