Gainesville man arrested for allegedly molesting child over two year span

A Gainesville man is facing a list of charges for allegedly molesting a child over a span of two years.

Russell Spangler Lowry, 53, was arrested Tuesday, accused of having "repeated sexual contact" with the child from 2014 to 2016, said Deputy Stephens Wilbanks, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

Lowry is charged with aggravated child molestation, aggravated sodomy, sexual battery and enticing a child for indecent purposes.

"Unfortunately, these types of crimes are sort of a steady factor in the criminal justice system. They never totally go away," said Wilbanks.

"We always have to be vigilant to combat it on every front possible."

Authorities declined to release any information regarding the child's age or gender, citing an effort to protect the child's identity in the investigation.

Lowry was arrested at his home in North Hall County without incident, and at last report remained in the Hall County Jail.
