Cornelia police seek info in apparent robbery-related shooting

CORNELIA — Cornelia police continue to investigate after a Thursday-night shooting on North Main Street.

Police responded to a call of an individual who had been shot in the torso just after 11 p.m., according to Cornelia police. The male victim was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

Units from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Alto, Baldwin and Demorest assisted Cornelia with the search for suspects in the case.

“The preliminary investigation pointing to robbery as the motive for the shooting,” Police Chief Chad Smith said in a written statement.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
