By AccessWDUN staff

Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Cancer Services recently expanded its Cancer Patient Navigation Program into the Greater Braselton and Winder areas. The program offers patients guidance and support from diagnosis through recovery.

Cancer navigation services are provided Monday through Friday, free of charge, either by physician or self-referral. Services offered by the program include:

*assisting patients in coordination of care, often from diagnosis to completion of treatment and survivorship;

*assessing barriers to care and helping engage patients and family members in decision-making;

*educating patients and caregivers about the disease;

*empowering patients to communicate their healthcare treatment choices and actively participate in their care through self-management;

*encouraging active communication between patients and healthcare providers; and

*providing access to financial resources and other support services.
