Facebook's Sandberg: Russia ads should be released to public

By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Facebook's chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, says the ads linked to Russia trying to influence the U.S. presidential election should "absolutely" be released to the public. This includes targeting information.

Congress is investigating Russia-linked ads on Facebook, Twitter and Google that sought to influence the election. In an interview with Axios , Sandberg also said the company has the responsibility to prevent the kind of abuse that occurred on its platform during the election.

Sandberg is in Washington DC this week to meet with elected officials . The meetings are ahead of the Nov. 1 House Intelligence Committee hearing at which all three tech giants are expected to testify.

Sandberg also says Facebook didn't realize the Russia ads and propaganda problem earlier because it was focused on other threats, such as hacking.
