Dawsonville woman faces charge, allegedly made up rape story

The Dawsonville woman who allegedly fabricated a story about being raped in a wooded area by a masked man now faces a criminal charge.

Following Wednesday morning's initial report, Dawson County Sheriff Jeff Johnson said there were inconsistencies with the story.

"There were some issues that just didn't sit right with the account of what occurred which led to just further investigation, obviously locations, times, video cameras, things of that nature," Johnson said.  "We went through those, and once she was brought in for follow-up, she admitted that she had in fact fabricated the story."

Abbie Danyelle Wesley, 22, is charged with one felony count of making false statements and writings.  Johnson said Wesley didn't offer a reason for the alleged story.

Wesley was arrested Thursday and remained in jail pending bond Friday afternoon.

Johnson said his department takes each allegation seriously, but that deputies walk a fine line.

"We don't want to put our community in fear and panic, and at the same time, we want to make sure that they're prepared."

He asked citizens to always remain vigilant , aware of their surroundings and exercise good personal safety habits.
