AccessWDUN takes flight on B-17 Bomber

ATLANTA - AccessWDUN's Bill Maine and Scott Kimbler took flight with other media members on the B-17 - Flying Fortress 'Aluminum Overcast' Thursday.

The plane is part of the many World War II era planes on display at DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK) for the Warbirds Weekend.

Crew chief Meredith Whitlock says the plane was commissioned in 1945 and served very little war time before being sold as surplus. At that time, the plane became a freight plane until it was donated to the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

With the EAA, the plane tours the country and gives flights to veterans and fans of aviation.

The plane is at PDK for Warbirds Weekend. The event happens every fall and this year makes a special point to remember the 70th anniversary of the first graduating class of the Tuskegee Airmen.
