The Dawson County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that a reported rape in Dawson County has been determined to be a fabrication.
Sheriff Jeff Johnson said in a post on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page that the initial investigation indicated the alleged sexual assault happened in a wooded area and the perpetrator was wearing a mask. However, Johnson said further investigation determined the story was fabricated.
Johnson said the investigation is still ongoing and more details will be released later. He also said regardless of the validity of the report, that citizen should remain "vigilant and cognizant of their surrounding."
Initially, it was reported the attack happened Wednesday morning.
