DAHLONEGA — North Georgia men's golf coach Tom Fowler has announced his intention to resign his coaching position at the conclusion of the fall season. He has accepted a position as the General Manager of Bent Tree Resort in his hometown of Jasper.

Fowler has served as the head of the program at UNG since its inception in 2009.

"Under Coach Fowler's leadership, the North Georgia men's golf team has elevated its status not only in the Peach Belt Conference, but also at the national level," said UNG director of athletics Lindsay Reeves. "He has been an exceptional teammate within the athletic department, fostered the game of golf and has served as a wonderful mentor and leader to countless Nighthawk student-athletes. We wish Tom and his family the best as they enter a new chapter of their lives."

In 2017, Fowler mentored Matt Elliott to a Peach Belt Conference individual championship and the school's first-ever berth in the NCAA Championship. Under his direction, the UNG men's golf program has claimed eight team championships, including a pair of tournament wins this fall at the Achasta Kickoff Classic and the Montevallo Full Moon BBQ Invitational.

Fowler's teams have been awarded the Peach Belt Conference's Team Sportsmanship award on four different occasions and he has mentored five Nighthawks to earn the PBC All-Academic award.

He was named Assistant of the Year for the Georgia Section of the PGA of America and also served as the section's Assistants Division as president and tournament director.

Fowler's Oconee Course golf shop at Reynolds Plantation was among the Top 100 Resort Golf Shops in Golf Digest in 2004.

A search for the next head men's golf coach will commence this winter with the goal of resolving the appointment in May.
