CLEVELAND — Two Cleveland men have been recognized by the City of Cleveland for their heroic action on Christmas Eve.
During Monday night's city council meeting, Shaka Cantrell and Reginald Cantrell were recognized for what Cleveland Mayor Shan Ash called "a lifesaving act that deserves recognition for their courageous efforts, good citizenship and service to others."
Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt said on Dec. 24, the two saw smoke coming from a residence on Hood Street, kicked the door in and located the resident inside.
Shaka Cantrell is employed by the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office. Twiggs County Sheriff Darren Mitchum and Chief Deputy Col. James Falk attended the city council meeting to support their officer.
Special thanks also were conveyed to Cleveland Fire Department.
"We really have some great guys," said Councilwoman Annie Sutton.
