New Habitat for Humanity Executive Director lays out plans for more affordable home ownership in Hall County

Former Building Director for Habitat for Humanity of Hall County, Tim Williams, hopes to build upon the foundation left by predecessor Ann Nixon after being introduced as Executive Director.

"Historically I have spent a lot of time on the job site, working with homeowners and volunteers and really enjoy that interaction with them. But I will be stepping back from that a little bit, although I can not get away from it because it is so near and dear to my heart so I will still be involved in that side of the business," Williams told WDUN's Afternoon News Wrap show.

"Now though, my job is a lot about advocacy and awareness. We will be talking to a lot of different groups in the community about what we do by offering a hand up, not a hand out."

Williams replaces Ann Nixon in the role of Executive Director who led the non-profit organization for four years. Over that time, Habitat for Humanity of Hall County began developing the Copper Glenn subdivision for community families that qualify.

"We were blessed with the donation of Copper Glenn that is an absolutely beautiful piece of property. We have completed four homes so far there, about to finish the fifth. We expect to complete at least five this coming year, possibly six," Williams said.

Having worked so closely with families in the community moving in to these homes as Building Director, Williams says the memories of move in day will always be special to him.

"Well that is always the most rewarding day; seeing the look on the faces of those families as they recieve the keys to a home of the own for the first time."

"These are hard working individuals. We do not give these houses away, which is a big misconception that most people have about Habitat. We help people that are earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income that can not quite afford a traditional type mortgage," Williams said.

Williams also said the growth and promotion of the  newly relocated ReStore, off of Chesnut Street, is a big focus for Habitat of Hall County this year as well.
