Sink hole in Oakwood partially consumes large truck

Authorities closed Wallis Road at Branch Road in Oakwood Tuesday morning, the result of a large truck in a sinkhole in a parking lot.

The sinkhole is near the roadway at the Diamond Auto Spa business on Wallis, according to Hall County Fire Services Captain Zachary Brackett.

"No injuries have been reported. All utility companies have been notified," Brackett wrote in an email.

He said officials also notified the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

Commenting at 8:22 a.m., Brackett said Oakwood Police were handling traffic control.

"Wallis Road at Branch Road in Oakwood will be closed until this incident is cleared," Brackett said.

Brackett described the vehicle as a hydro-vac truck that holds roughly 1,600 gallons of water and weighs about 55,000 lbs.

"An active fuel leak from the truck is being mitigated by a private contractor who is offloading the fuel before the vehicle is moved," Brackett wrote in an update.
