Three-vehicle Banks County wreck injures six people

MAYSVILLE — A wreck involving two occupied vehicles and one that was parked resulted in injuries to six people near Maysville just before 6:30 Friday night.

Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville released details of that wreck on Sunday.

A 2012 Ford Focus driven by Samantha Cook of Hayesville, N.C., was stopped eastbound on Carson Segars Road facing the stop sign at the intersection of Ga. 98, according to Cpl. Nick A. Jenkins of Post 6.

Cook's vehicle then began traveling eastbound toward Grove Level Road and entered the northbound lane in front of a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Joel Camargo-Gonzalez of Clarkesville, which struck her car in the right side.

Cook's car then rotated counterclockwise and its right side struck the rear bumper of the Explorer, Jenkins said.

The Explorer then began rotating clockwise and traveled onto the east shoulder into the front yard of a home on Grove Level Road, where it struck the left side of a parked 1998 Chevrolet Blazer with its rear bumper, Jenkins said. The Explorer again rotated counterclockwise and again struck the left side of the parked Blazer with its rear bumper.

Cook was injured and was transported by Banks County ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Her front seat passenger, Christopher Burnett of Gillsville, suffered injuries as a result of the crash but was not transported from the scene for care, Jenkins said.

Camargo-Gonzalez, his front seat passenger MA Camargo-Gonzalez, and his rear seat passengers Alexa Fuentes and Stephanie Fuentes all were injured and were transported by Banks County ambulances to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, according to Jenkins.

Jenkins said charges are pending against Cook, adding Joel Camargo-Gonzalez faces a seatbelt charge.
