Suwanee 2017 events calendar to include extended 'Woofstock,' Spin Doctors concert

The 2017 events calendar, if approved by Suwanee City Council, will include an extended "Woofstock" festival and a concert by the Spin Doctors in August.

Residents can expect to see much of the regular events on the 2017 calendar, said Marty Allen, city manager, including Suwanee Fest and Suwanee Beer Fest, but there will be a few new events on the final calendar.

"The Big Cheesy Festival is being replaced with another kind of festival," said Allen.

"Probably the biggest change is we're considering going from a one-day Woofstock Festival to a two-day festival."

The goal with the expansion is to spread out the crowds at the popular dog-themed event, which will be held May 6-7.

"For the most part everything that people are familiar with is remaining: our Memorial Day Concert, our August concert, Suwanee Fest," said Allen.

The Spin Doctors will be making their appearance at the August concert, which is set for August 12 as part of the August Concert and Wing Festival. City leaders are still working to pin down which group(s) will play at the Memorial Day concert.

Allen said they like to find patriotic groups such as military bands or local high school musical groups to perform at the Memorial Day event.

City council will consider the calendar's final approval at its meeting Jan. 24.
