Suspect arrested following Suwanee SWAT standoff

A man was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff Wednesday night at a home on John Stewart Place in Suwanee.

Ceeyavash Salehi, 52, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and battery for allegedly threatening his mother with a knife, Cpl. Michele Pihera, Gwinnett Police spokeswoman.

"She fled the home and called for help. The son retreated inside," said Pihera in an email. Police arrived on scene and the supervising officer called for the SWAT team, since it became evident that Salehi wasn't going to come out.

SWAT negotiators were eventually able to get Salehi to surrender peacefully before midnight; he was taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Pihera said this is not the first time police have had to deal with Salehi in a criminal matter, but she said she shopes it's the last.
