White County Sheriff's Office receives re-certification

By Dean Dyer WRWH Radio

The White County Sheriff’s Office has completed the State of Georgia Law Enforcement Re-certification.

Sheriff Neal Walden and his staff were presented their re-certification plaque during Monday’s White County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch, who serves on the board of directors for the state certification program, made the presentation.

"State law enforcement certification is earned and not freely given, by that law enforcement agency," Couch told the commission board. "You have a very professionally run agency here in White County and I’m sure you are very, very proud of it."

Walden thanked his staff for their efforts in meeting the standards.

Walden said this is something that helps his office employees improve what they do.

"It's routine for us," Walden said. "We're doing it all the time, but too, in doing this along the way we might see some little thing that we are not being proficient in and we can correct that as we go. So it’s a learning tool all the time for us."

According to Couch, of the 700 law enforcement agencies in the state only 122 have met the standards and of the 159 sheriffs only 22 have achieved the status.

Couch also presented a certificate of appreciation to White County Deputy Daren Welborn, the agency's certification officer.
