Alto man faces aggravated assault, kidnapping charges after manhunt in Banks County

HOMER — A man officials said was armed and dangerous was arrested following a massive manhunt in Banks County Friday night.

Alton Lee Davidson, 43, was arrested just before 7 p.m. Friday and is charged in Banks County with aggravated assault and two counts of kidnapping. He also faces charges out of Habersham County and an outstanding felony warrant out of Franklin County.

"At around 2 p.m. [Friday], Banks County deputies were requested by Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials to the area of Wilson Shoals Wildlife Management Area," said Banks County Sheriff's Lt. Carissa McFaddin. "DNR advised that they were in the area when they observed a white male cha sing a female. They stopped to check the welfare of those subjects and when they did the male subject fled from officers."

McFaddin said additional investigation revealed there were two females on scene "who had been involved in a violent domestic situation with this male subject."

The original incident occurred in Habersham County, McFaddin said.

In addition to Banks County deputies, Georgia DNR K-9 units, Habersham County Sheriff's Office, Alto Police Department, Lee Arrendale State Prison K-9 unit, Hall County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol Aviation participated in the search and in maintaining a perimeter around the area.

He surrendered willingly after being located in a wooded area within the search perimeter between Yonah Homer Road and Grant Mill Road, McFaddin said. At the time of his arrest, officers located two knives and a small quantity of cocaine.

Davidson was taken to the Banks County Law Enforcement Center, where he faces the Banks County charges.

Davidson is no stranger to law enforcement.

"His last arrest in Banks County he was booked on aggravated assault and burglary charges, along with cruelty to children and terroristic threats and acts," McFaddin said. "Currently he does have an active warrant out of Franklin County for aggravated assault on a police officer, and Habersham County has just taken a warrant for false imprisonment."
