Berry women hand Piedmont 4-1 loss

DEMOREST — A late surge by the Vikings of Berry College was too much for the Piedmont College women's soccer team on Wednesday evening as the visitors to Walker Athletic Complex scored three goals in the final 17 minutes to earn a 4-1 win over PC.

Berry took the lead on a finish in the box after clever build-up allowed midfielder Maggie Midkiff the chance to slot one past Piedmont keeper Ashlyn Atnip in the 26th minute. The Vikings were on the ball for much of the first half led by Midkiff who was a 2015 All-American selection for the visitors.

In the second half, it was a different story to open up for Piedmont as the Lady Lions began to get their legs earning more of the possession through the first 20 minutes of the period. Finally, Piedmont got the equalizer it was looking for as Cassidy Reich smashed an attempted clearance into the Berry net with her left foot to make it a 1-1 game in the 68th.

Despite taking advantage of the momentum, Piedmont allowed it to swing back to the Vikings when Midkiff pounced on a deflected ball and promptly fired to the far post to put Berry back up 2-1. Chasing the game for a second time on the evening, PC would allowed two goals over the final ten minutes to go down 4-1 to the in-state foe.
