Softball: North Hall takes big win to wrap region regular season

GAINESVILLE — The North Hall softball team defeated Fannin County 14-6 on Tuesday in Gainesville.  

Niki Carver (2-for-4, home run, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored) led the game off with a double and scored on a single by Julian Garrett (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 3 runs, 1 stolen base). Ashlyn Brewster (1-for-3, 3 runs scored) crossed the plate later in the first inning. The Lady Trojans (10-7, 10-2 Region 7-AAA) exploded for six runs in the second inning with Kadie Sullens (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored) and Amber Smith (1-for-3, 2 RBI) providing run scoring doubles. Charli Shepheard (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored), Camilla Howell (1-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored), Devin Imai (1-for-3), and Carson Negley (1-for-3, 1 run scored) also had hits in the second inning.  

The Lady Rebels (3-19, 2-10) narrowed the gap by scoring six runs in the third and fourth innings combined, but North Hall answered with two runs in the fourth and four more runs in the fifth.

Carver hit a solo home run in the fifth, followed by a double by Brewster and a triple by Shepheard to end the game under the run rule.

The Lady Trojans finished the regular season with the best record in Region 7-AAA, and earned the right to host the semi-finals and finals of the Region 7-AAA Tournament on Oct. 5.

North Hall received a bye in the first round and will play the fourth seed at 11 a.m. Union County also received a bye in the first round and will play the third seed at 1 p.m. First round elimination games will be played on Oct. 4.  Results from the Region Tournament will determine placement for the first round of the GHSA State Tournament.
