A state legislative study committee continues a series of meetings across Georgia, trying to hear concerns of citizens who have no access to the Internet.

The Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for all Georgians Study Committee will be in Toccoa on Thursday afternoon to hold the second in the series of meetings. Interested citizens are invited to attend the session beginning at 1 p.m. at the Currahee Campus of North Georgia Technical College.

Among the lawmakers on the committee is State Sen. John Wilkinson of Toccoa. In a press statement issued recently, he urged his constituents to attend Thursday's meeting.

“Community involvement in meetings like this one is extremely important because it opens conversation about what changes are necessary in the state of Georgia.  I encourage anyone who is interested in providing comments, concerns or ideas to attend the meeting and participate," Wilkinson said.

The Joint High-Speed Broadband Communications Access for All Georgians Study Committee was created by the passage of Senate Resolution 876. Five state senators and five state representatives make up the committee. They are tasked with examining the conditions, needs, issues and problems of high-speed broadband Internet access.

The committee has a December 1 deadline for submitting a report on its findings and recommendations for the upcoming legislative session.
